Press descriptions

Short · 40 words

DERIVA is an experimental audio effect built around discovery instead of preset browsing. Use Fracture to generate a temporary state, shape it across four Engines, then offer the active Fragment to the Keeper. Some enter your personal Archive; others disappear.

Medium · product overview

DERIVA is an experimental audio effect for turning incoming audio into degraded textures, granular movement, spectral colour and spatial bloom. It has no factory presets. Instead, Fracture generates a temporary processing state across four Engines: Erosion, Scatter, Veil and Mirror. The result can be shaped, reordered and heard in context before it is offered to the Keeper. The user does not choose the outcome. The Keeper decides whether the Fragment is Preserved or Lost. Preserved states become Remnants in a personal Archive; Lost states disappear. This deliberate impermanence makes listening, commitment and discovery part of the instrument, while the Archive becomes a record of the sounds that held the user’s attention.

03

The workflow

Not a Save/Delete system. The uncertainty is the point.

  1. 01

    Fracture

Generate a temporary processing state across DERIVA’s four Engines.

  2. 02

    Shape

Adjust, reorder, mute or solo Erosion, Scatter, Veil and Mirror while listening in context.

  3. 03

    Offer

Submit the active Fragment to the Keeper. From this point, the user no longer controls the outcome.

  4. 04

    Preserved / Lost

The Keeper decides. Preserved states become Remnants in the Archive; Lost states disappear.

Impermanence is part of the instrument

A sound the user likes is not automatically guaranteed to remain available. That changes the act of browsing into listening, deciding and committing. Over time, each Archive develops differently because it contains only the states that survived the Keeper.
