The question
What if building a synthesizer patch felt less like programming a signal chain and more like shaping a living world?
ASTROFLORA explores an instrument in which galaxies, terrain and organisms become a language for sound. The metaphor is functional: creatures generate material, terrain shapes its timbre and space, and the wider world holds related variations.
The direction
The experiment is divided into three scales. A galaxy offers a map of sounds and nearby variations. A planet turns broad characteristics such as brightness, depth, movement and degradation into a landscape. An ecosystem contains the individual sound-producing and texture-making organisms.
A procedural system can create new worlds from a seed, but generation is meant to remain repeatable and under the musician’s control. ASTROFLORA is not intended to change unpredictably without an explicit action.
What remains unresolved
The central challenge is making the world metaphor musically clearer than a conventional synthesizer rather than merely more decorative. The relationship between every visual element and its audible result still needs to earn its place.
The name, structure and final form of this experiment are not fixed.
